LEWISTON, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- Mainers are once again stepping up and helping out with those affected by superstorm Sandy.. this time, helping some four legged friends.

Many people are still cleaning up from the damage left by Sandy over a month ago. One particular animal shelter in Eatontown, New Jersey has been overrun with stray cats -- or cats left behind by owners who can no longer care for them because they lost their home.

The Greater Androscoggin Humane Society is helping out by taking 37 of those cats into Maine and dispersing them to local shelters here - where they'll hopefully be adopted.

Six other shelters in Maine from Bangor to Waterville have agreed to take in those cats... The adoption fee will be waived for these particular pets.
