Hundreds gather to remember South Portland police officer

WESTBROOK, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- Hundreds of fellow police officers, family and friends gathered at the Westbrook Performing Arts Center this morning to remember South Portland police officer Peter MacVane, who died Wednesday.

MacVane was remembered by mourners as tough, courageous, generous and funny.

He was known for his signature 'thumbs up' and his dedication to the Maine Special Olympics.

MacVane a 34-year veteran of the South Portland Police Department, died following a five-year battle with cancer.
