ALBUQUERQUE, New Mexico (NEWS CENTER) -- U.S. Marshals in Maine developed information that Cameron was in New Mexico and contacted the Marshals office there.
Deputies in New Mexico conducted surveillance and apprehended Cameron as he was exiting a store bathroom in Albuquerque around 11:15 West Coast time.
He surrendered to the Marshals without incident.
Back in 2010 Cameron, a former assistant Attorney General in Maine, was convicted on 13 counts of child pornography. Last Month a federal court judge in Massachusetts upheld 7 of those 13 counts. Cameron was released from federal prison while his appeal was pending, but he removed his monitoring device and fled.
Cameron was serving a 16-year sentence, but now he's facing a new charge of violating the conditions of his release.
At the time of his arrest Sunday his 1999 tan Audi was full of camping gear. Cameron is being held at the Sandoval County Detention Center located in Rio Rancho, New Mexico.
After making a court appearance in New Mexico, US Marshal Noel March says he will be returned to Maine.
