BANGOR, Maine (NEWS CENTER)-- Knowing how to effectively market a product can be an important way to sell various items. On Saturday at the Hilton Garden Inn in Bangor, farmers got a few marketing tips to help sell their products.
Jim Ochterski is an Agriculture Economic Development Specialist at Cornell University and was the keynote speaker.
He gave farmers tips on how to promote their farms. He talked about how they can give advice to consumers, and what types of signs they should use to draw attention.
Ochterski also talked about the importance of picking the right brand for each farm.
"The important thing is for the farm to think very deliberately what they want to be known for. And I encourage farmers to work with their customers to sort of come up with that identity that they'll use over, and over and over, and really be known for one distinction rather than trying to be everything to everyone," Ochterski said.
Ochterski also talked about marketing on Craigslist. He said some of the ideas he shared on Saturday do not require farmers to spend a lot of money.
