PORTLAND, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- From Bangor to Portland, and from Auburn to Augusta, Mainers braved the cold to deliver heartwarming donations for the annual Coats & Toys For Kids campaign.
As of Saturday night, donors dropped off more than five thousand new or gently used coats, and thousands of toys, between the six drop-off locations across the state.
Pratt Abbott Cleaners will be cleaning the gently-used coats, and the Salvation Army will be distributing all of the donations.
According to Salvation Army Major James LaBossiere, the campaign kick-off comes just in time.
"We've given out several thousand coats already coming in to this season," said Major LaBossiere. "There's a great demand and people are waiting."
We will be collecting new, unwrapped toys until December 16, and coats until the end of the month.
Donations can be delieverd to any Shaws or Hannaford location across the state, as well as local Salvation Army offices.
