FAIRFIELD, Maine (NEWS CENTER) --- Members of an electrical workers union in Fairfield were shocked when someone fired shots into the union's office Thursday evening. While many of them were inside the building that night attending classes there were no injuries.

Bullet holes were left in two of the front windows at IBEW Local 1253. One also pierced the door frame of the building.

Members who were in the hall that night said they heard the shots fired at about 5 p.m. Thursday. About 20 people were gathered inside the building for apprenticeship classes.

The International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers represents more than 200 people in Eastern and Central Maine. Its local directors say they can't understand what prompted the attack.

"It's a very frightening thing both for Somerset County, for Fairfield...for residents....for working people everywhere, if this in fact is motivated by belief of a non profit organization that stands up for the rights of working people," said Jeff Rose who is the business manager for IBEW Local 1253.

The Fairfield Police Department is investigating the shooting. Anyone who might have been on Main Street Thursday evening or might have seen something is asked to contact them at (207)453-9321.
