PORTLAND, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- The Deering Rams used a quarterback with some Sweet moves to pull away from their archrivals, the Portland Bulldogs 28-14, in the 101st Maine Thanksgiving Day Classic.
Kenny Sweet kicked off the scoring for the Rams with a 6 yard TD run in the first quarter.
The Bulldogs answered back just before halftime. Ryan Ruhlin found Joe Nielsen for a tying touchdown pass, and the game was knotted 7-7 at the half.
Sweet found the endzone again in the third quarter. He dashed and darted 52 yards to pay dirt, but the Rams missed the extra point. It was 13-7.
Deering began pulling away in the fourth when Sweet struck again, this time throwing a touchdown pass to Ricardo Delgado. The two point conversation made it 21-7.
The Rams put the game away when Sweet went 81 yards for his fourth and final scoring play of the day. He finished the day with 248 yards rushing on 21 carries. The Bulldogs would score a late touchdown, but it wasn't enough. Deering has won 10 of the last 11 Turkey day games, but Portland still leads the overall series 54-40-7.
