BANGOR, Maine (NEWS CENTER) --- The days leading up to Thanksgiving have brought a steady increase in work for many businesses around Bangor.

Staff at 'W.A. Bean and Sons' say that they've sold more than 1,000 pounds of meat for the holiday, which has included a good deal of hams, turkeys and chickens to go on Thanksgiving tables around the area.

Wednesday also brought crowds to "Frank's Bake Shop" in Bangor as people made a last dash to pick up bread, pies, cakes and cookies. Staff at the bakery say second to the day before Christmas, this is their busiest day of the year.

"Last year unfortunately the weathermen were not cooperating...gave us snow on this day," said Bernadette Gaspar, who is one of the owners of the bakery, "so we were open half a day on Thanksgiving but luckily the weather's holding out for us."

Each year, 'Frank's' takes a good deal of its orders for Thanksgiving in advance. The shop took about 600 orders before yesterday, which translated into the shop preparing about 1,800 individual baked goods.
