(NEWS CENTER) - Looks like the best was saved for last, as the Mt Blue Cougars take home the Gold Ball to Farmington with a 44-42 win over the Marshwood Hawks.
In one of the most entertaining games anyone has seen in these parts, the Cougars of Mt Blue were able to hold off the upstart Marshwood Hawks. Mt. Blue's Chad Luker scored 5 touchdowns on short runs to pace the scoring for the Cougars. The Cougar wer led up and down the field all night long by starting quarterback Jordan Whitney. Whitney himself rushed for 122 yards.
Marshwood played strong all night long, getting big play after big play from thier starting QB Cameron Roll. Roll finished with 126 yards rushing, including multiple 20 plus yarders and had 2 TD passes, including a beautiful 67 yarder between 2 Cougars defenders, to Beau Blanchette.
This was Mt Blue's first state title since 1980 and Marshwood's first apprearence in a State Title game since winning in 1989.
