ORONO, Maine (NEWS CENTER)-- A group in Orono spent their Election Day helping others get to the polls.
Several drivers volunteered to give students a ride from University of Maine's Memorial Union to polling locations in the area. Fiona Hamilton is one of the organizers of the of drivers helping voters. She is with the Orono Democratic committee. She says no matter whom they vote for, she just wants to make sure people get out and vote.
Hamilton says,"We are organizing it on campus because a lot of students think they can vote on campus and find that they have to go somewhere else. Some will be interested enough in to doing that anyways and others maybe will loose interest or be too busy and they'll not vote. And I really want everyone to vote."
The Maine Republican party officials say they too have been assisting people with rides who have called one of their 10 field offices in the state.
