NORTH BERWICK, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- First responders in Maine are teaming up to help some of the firefighters and rescuers working in some of the hardest hit areas from Hurricane Sandy.
North Berwick rescue chief, Mike Barker, grew up in New Jersey and says a lot of the volunteer fire departments down there were damaged by the storm.
While rescuers work around the clock to help those hurt by Sandy, some of those first responders themselves have lost their own homes and have gone days without clean clothes or a hot shower.
The North Berwick Rescue Department has teamed up with Arundel and North Yarmouth Fire and Rescue to collect basic essentials to bring down to some of those first responders.
Some of the major items they need are baby wipes, (which can be used to clean up, since a lot of places still don't have running water), toothbrushes and toothpaste, cleaning supplies, socks and clean shirts, and other basic toiletries.
