Strong easterly winds will be with us for the first part of the night and then weaken after midnight. Periods of heavy rain can be expected through Tuesday.
At 5 PM Hurricane Sandy was located about 30 miles southeast of Cape May, New Jersey. The storm was moving northwestward and is expected to push inland this evening. Once this happens the friction of the land will start to weaken the circulation around the storm and our nasty winds will diminish. I expect this to start happening between midnight and 2 AM. Bands of heavy rainfall will continue to rotate into our region from the Gulf of Maine tonight and into Tuesday. As Sandy continues to weaken on Wednesday the rain should become lighter and more intermittent. This trend is expected to continue into Friday at which point we may even start to see more breaks in the clouds.
