PORTLAND, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- Portland Police and Federal Protective Service are investigating the theft of two antique hand-carved wooden eagle sculptures worth $50,000.
The eagles were taken from the Grand Lobby of the Custom House Building located on 312 Fore St., according to the city's spokeswoman, Nicole Clegg. The building is currently closed for renovations.
The theft happened sometime between October 20th and 21st.
The eagles are each about three feet tall and two and a half feet wide, painted gold.
The eagles are believed to be original to the building and date to around 1863. They recently underwent restoration.
