WISCASSET, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- There should be some noise in Wiscasset this Sunday, along with a lot of happy people. The Wiscasset Raceway will be hosting a special "fall Fury" set of races that day.

The Racetrack opened in 1969 and used to be a busy and popular spot in town. But the track had been closed the last few years. This summer, businessman and race car driver Richard Jordan of Kingfield bought the raceway, and hopes to have it back in full operation next season. Jordan says he wanted to show thanks for all the local support, so they're holding one day of racing on Sunday. Jordan and veteran driver Dale Chadbourne are organizing the events. They say there's a lot of interest, with more than 130 cars already pre-registered for the event. They say a practice day last weekend attracted more than 50 cars.

Chadbourne and Jordan say they also expect a good crowd for the event. Both men say their phones have been ringing steadily, and believe there are lots of people who want to see racing return to Wiscasset. The track, they say is longer and potentially faster than any other racetrack in Maine. Races start at 11:00 Sunday morning.
