WELLS, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- A woman was killed when her car crashed and caught fire in Wells.

The crash was called into police shortly before 3 p.m. on Thursday.  Officers determined that a Buick LeSabre was turning off Littlefield Road onto North Berwick Road when it collided with a Jeep Cherokee.  The car then went off the road and burst into flames.

Several witnesses rushed over to the car to help the two women inside.  Lorraine Cantalupo, 85, of North Weymouth, Mass., was pulled free and sent to the hospital.  But her driver, Lillian Kreitman, 85, from Sanford, could not be saved.  She was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of Cherokee, Justin Parker, 28, of Wells, was released at the scene.
