OLD TOWN, Maine (NEWS CENTER)--Maine winters can be as harsh on people's wallets as they are cold.  A man in Old Town is taking advantage of alternative technology to keep his heating costs down.

At age 94, Richard Hill has tried nearly every type of heating system you can imagine.  Now he is using a Mini Split Heat Pump to save money.  The pump takes the heat out of the air and sends it inside.

Hill expects to save thousands because of the switch but the unit is not ideal in every situation.  The pump has a limited capacity to heat and owners sometimes have to use back-up systems in extreme cold.  Split Pump run off electricity.

Bangor Hydro Electric is offering rebates for anyone who makes the switch.  The company does not sell the heating pumps or install them.

To learn how you can sign up for financing or the heating rebate contact Bangor Hydro Electric at 945-5621.
