LAMOINE, Maine (NEWS CENTER)-- A couple from Lamoine have started the first and only licensed Rabbit Rescue in Maine.

Jenny and Mathew Nichols opened the  Cottontail Cottage Rabbit Rescue. The non-profit organization is located in Lamoine providing aid and relief for unwanted, neglected and abused rabbits. The rescue offers the rabbits shelter and rehabilitation until permanent homes can be found. Jenny Nichols says they already have 40 rabbits in what was their garage. She says Rabbits are the third most often surrendered animals at shelters.

Jenny said, "Right now our 2 biggest fund raisers are to renovate this building which is one of the out buildings on our property as well as to start a spay and neuter program which is really really important to us because otherwise the cycle will continue. "

The Nichols are hoping others will think that their project is worth continuing and supporting too. If you would like more information on the Cottontail Cottage Rabbit Rescue you can click on one of the links below.
