DOVER, New Hampshire (NEWS CENTER) - The man accused of killing a student from the University of New Hampshire has made his first court appearance.
Seth Mazzaglia was arraigned in Dover District Court Monday morning.
Mazzaglia is charged with one count of Second Degree Murder in the death of Elizabeth "Lizzi" Marriott. Her body has not been found. Law enforcement officials believe it is on or near Peirce Island in Portsmouth.
According to an article in the Seacoast online, Mazzaglia was involved in local theater groups and people in that community were shocked to learn of his arrest.
But one woman who attended Monday's hearing says she isn't shocked.
Crystal Childers is a shift manager at the Hannaford Supermarket in Dover. She says his behavior was suspect, "...when I saw his picture I wasn't surprised just because of the encounters I have had with him and seeing who he was in the store," she explained.
Childers says Mazzaglia would talk to younger cashiers at the store, asking them about their age and whether they were in a relationship.
Prosecutor Jane Young with the NH Attorney General's Office said more information would come out later Monday - including when the search for Marriott's body might resume.
