DEXTER, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- Police in Dexter say they've received a report of a woman seeing a 10-year-old matching the description of a girl missing from Colorado.
Sgt. Alan Grinnell says a woman told police she saw the girl resembling Jessica Ridgeway Sunday afternoon on Spring Street in Dexter. The witness did not report the sighting to police until Tuesday morning because she didn't see the Amber Alert for Jessica on her computer until that morning.
The woman who Grinnell won't identify, described the car the girl was seen in a light blue mid-1990's Buick station wagon with Colorado plates. No license plate number was given.
The car had roof racks and five spoke wheels, Grinnell said.
Grinnell told our sister station, KUSA-TV in Denver, that police departments in Maine are are on the lookout for the car and the police department has passed along this information to Police in Westminster, Colorado, where Jessica is from.
Westminster Police told KUSA they are taking this tip as seriously as every other tip they receive and they are talking to police in Maine, however they were surprised this particular tip took off like it did because they have received tips from other parts of the country as well.
Jessica Ridgeway has been missing since Friday morning, when she didn't make it to school. Local, state and federal agencies are looking for the 10-year-old.
