ORONO, Maine (AP) - Nearly 300 people from around Maine are gathering in Orono for a conference on community service.
The 26th annual Blaine House Conference on Service and Volunteerism is taking place Tuesday at the University of Maine at Orono.
The conference is put on by the Maine Commission for Community Service and serves as a professional development opportunity for volunteer program leaders from around the state.
At the conference, Caribou Police Chief Michael Gahagan is being presented the Champion of Service Award, which is given each year to a person who serves in the public sector and has served as a strong advocate for community service.
