BANGOR, Maine (NEWS CENTER) --- Staff at Manna Ministries in Bangor have come up with a pretty good way to raise money for area women and children in need.
The first ever 'Harvest Fundraiser' will be held on Friday evening October, 12 2012 from 6 p.m. until 11 p.m. at the Bangor Elks Lodge.
It is taking place to benefit Ann's House, which is a shelter for homeless women and their children that was opened by Manna Ministries last January. Since then dozens of women have passed through 'Ann's House' seeking shelter and ways to get new housing.
The 'Harvest Fundraiser' will be a dinner and silent auction. Directors at 'Ann's House' say several businesses have donated prizes for people to bid on and that every dollar raised for the shelter will go a long way.
"We do provide 24 hour staffing here at Ann's House," said program director Sherry Molcan, "so it does cost money to keep things up and running with payroll and lights and heat and those kinds of things that will be coming up so the expenses to keep Ann's House going are usually $2,200 a week."
The auction will be taking place at the Bangor Elks Lodge on October 12th. There are still dozens of tickets left for $15 per person or $25 per couple.
