BURNSWICK, Maine (NEWS CENTER) - The search is on for a missing dog named Shadow.

The dog went missing from the Coastal Humane Society on Friday afternoon and the shelter manager suspects the dog was stolen.

Shadow is a 1.5 year old male beagle. CHS says it looks like some people interested in adopting the dog took him for a walk and just didn't bring him back.

Shadow was being treated for Lyme disease, which, if left untreated, can be debilitating for dogs.

The Humane Society says they just want the dog returned. "I do want to make it clear that our biggest interest is getting Shadow back to us," says Customer Service Representative Lisa Smith, "If anyone knows about him or wants to bring him back to us, no questions will be asked. We won't prosecute. We're just interested in the safe return of Shadow."

Police are looking into possible suspects but it is too early to come to any concrete conclusions.

Smith tells us that the dog is microchipped. Anyone with information is asked to call Brunswick police or the Animal Shelter.
