Over the last nine days a measly 0.02 inches of rain has been recorded at the Portland Jetport so it is probably safe to say that we are overdue for some precipitation. All the computer models seem to think so because they all agree on a soaking rain event taking place here over the next 36 hours. An approaching cold front is expected to tap into some very moist air as it moves toward the east coast and transport the moisture into New England. Any sunshine Tuesday morning will quickly give way to clouds with showers breaking out in the afternoon. The bulk of the rain should get here Tuesday night along with some strong southerly winds that could gust to over 30 mph along the coast. The front will move off the Maine coast Wednesday morning bringing an end to the precipitation and we should see some sunshine by the afternoon. A ridge of high pressure will then build in for Thursday and Friday.
