PORTLAND, Maine (NEWS CENTER) - Fred P. Hall Elementary School is closedat least through Tuesday after an early morning fire broke out on the rooftop.

Portland crews were able to contain the fire within 15 minutes, but there's still a significant amount of water damage.  Firefighters got the call shortly before 2:00am Monday.  When they arrived, flames were visible from the rooftop.  Deputy Chief Scott Thomes says the fire started somewhere between the suspended ceiling and rooftop making it very difficult for crews to reach.

All before and after school activities have been cancelled.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
