PORTLAND, Maine (NEWS CENTER) - The Porthole, the Comedy Connection and Harbor's Edge banquet hall failed a health inspection Thursday.

The businesses, which are on the Portland waterfront, all share a kitchen and a food license.

The city inspector went there after receiving a complaint. According to her report, there was a "serious rat infestation" and flies on food, among other violations.

A spokesperson for the city says the pest control problems have been fixed, but there are other critical violations that continue to need work. The city is working with the businesses on a plan to address those.

Workers at the businesses today declined to comment.

The Porthole was recently featured on the Food Network's "Diner, Drive-ins and Dives" program. A sign out front on Friday said the eatery was closed because of "water issues."
