PORTLAND, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- Demolition has officially kicked off at the Cumberland County Civic Center.
The $33-million renovation project is starting at the Free Street entrance in Portland. Part of the changes to the building will include updating the entrances and eliminating the steep outdoor stairs; also revamping the seating and adding new suites.
Anyone needing to access the ticket lobby from Free Street can still do so by entering through the parking garage.
The goal is keep the Civic Center operating throughout the renovations while tackling pieces of the building one at a time.
