BANGOR, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- Beal College in Bangor is celebrating the creation of a new program that it hopes will match it's graduates with some of the skilled good paying jobs that are in demand in the Pine Tree State.
The college's president, Allen Stehle, announced today that starting October 29 students will be able to earn an associate degree in Welding Technology. It's the 10th degree now offered at Beal College and will follow the same eight week mod schedule as the others. Though one difference will be that students who want to enter the program will only have one start date throughout the year, instead of six.
According to Welding Program Director, Jesse Crosby, the course will consist of students spending 60% of their time doing hands on work and 40% of their time in the class room. During that time learning several import skills that industry professionals look for in their employees. "They're going to get all the skills necessary that their going to need to become entry level trades men," says Crosby. "They'll be able to go out into the work force and become successful."
The program currently has 56 slots available. Due to limited enrollment, interested applicants are encouraged to contact Beal College as soon as possible to apply. As many as 200 people are expected to apply this fall.
