PORTSMOUTH, N.H. (NEWS CENTER) -- Friday will be a busy one for political junkies in New Hampshire. President Obama, Vice President Biden and their wives will all be in Portsmouth for an event just after noon. Mitt Romney is holding a rally in Nashua at 7.

New Hampshire is considered a swing state, but it's not because there are many undecided voters. Andrew Smith, the director of the University of New Hampshire Survey Center says those voters make up about 3 to 4 percent of the voting population. But there are only a few more Democrats in the state than Republicans, and Smith says that means it's really important for these campaigns to motivate their more casual supporters to show up on Election Day.

Smith says New Hampshire has become more important this year because the number of true swing states is shrinking, so New Hampshire's 4 electoral votes can make a difference. Also, he says, both campaigns can afford to visit New Hampshire more often because money is not much of a problem.

The job for the campaigns, he says, is to motivate their more tepid supporters to show up on Election Day. Smith said, "It's not as if there's this big block of people who are waiting to make up their mind. The turnout is going to be the driver -- which party can motivate their people."
