TAMPA, Florida (NBC) -- Before splitting up to campaign Friday morning Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan put a positive spin on the Republican National Convention.

"Coming out of Tampa we have give our fellow countrymen a very clear choice," Ryan said.

"You listened to the last guy running for president, he laid out what he wanted to do, he was unable to do it. It's time to give someone new a chance," Romney added.

In his soaring speech last night, Romney did not lay out specifics.

Nor did Ryan, Wednesday.

As campaigning resumed, Joe Biden took a shot.

"Paul Ryan has given a clear definition of vague commitments," the vice president said.

The buzz after Mitt's big night was not about the Romney speech, however, but instead Clint Eastwood's odd chat with an imaginary Barack Obama.

Viewers saw that instead of moving tributes to Romney.

"What happened with Clint Eastwood is not going to decide the outcome of this campaign, but what it represents is a mistake at a big moment by the Romney campaign," says CNBC chief Washington correspondent John Harwood.

Romney changed his schedule to visit Louisiana for a presidential-style tour of the Hurricane Isaac flood zone.

President Obama will visit on Monday.

Mr. Obama went to Fort Bliss, Texas Friday to remind voters he kept his promise to end the Iraq war, two years ago to the day.

Next week, it's the president's turn in a convention spotlight.
