LEWISTON, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- The American Red Cross has more supplies of blood following a much-needed blood drive they held Saturday, but they still say the need for blood is critical right now.
Yesterday's blood drive was held at the Lewiston Harley Davidson. Red Cross representatives say they had a steady stream of people show up, but the need is so great, that they still need many more donors of all blood types.
"We've actually been a national critical appeal for the majority of the summer trying to increase blood collections because they've been extremely low. Labor Day weekend is another holiday weekend that's usually difficult for us to collect. Folks are busy, taking that last little vacation before the summer's unofficially over, so it can be very challenging for us."
The Red Cross is most in need of O+ and O- donors. Those donors are considered universal donors because their blood is compatible with all blood types.
