RUMFORD, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- A woman in Rumford says the gift she received Tuesday has restored her faith in people. Diane Hamilton has many health problems that have kept her from getting around the way she'd like. But thanks to the internet and some kind people, things are a little easier for Diane now.
For about 3 years, Diane had been trying to save money to get her old scooter running again. It just wasn't working out. All summer, she'd want to go outside to be with the people she heard talking on the porch. But it's tough getting around on a walker. "It's lonely," Diane said. "Very lonely."
But Diane isn't alone. Her neighbor, Crystal Richards, wanted to help. She posted on the Facebook page for Oxford Swap and Sell, asking if anyone had a motorized scooter for sale. Beverly Giroux of Oxford saw the post. She had a scooter she was looking to sell that belonged to her late husband. They bought the scooter to take a trip to Disney World last year when he was sick. It only was used that one week.
Giroux said, "When I saw her post, I thought, immediately, this has got to be taken to Rumford." Giroux also could tell that Hamilton didn't have the money to pay for the scooter, so she gave it as a gift.
"I didn't think there was anybody out there willing to help," Hamilton said. "My faith has been renewed."
