Infant dies from being left in a hot car

CORPUS CHRISTI, Tex. (NBC) - Police are investigating the death of a 16-month-old boy that died after being left in a hot car outside of his Corpus Christi, Texas home.

Police say 26-year-old mother Connie Rodriguez left the child in the car after a trip to the store.

Seven children, all under the age of 8, went along on the trip, but the baby stayed in his car seat when the arrived home.

Detectives say when the father got home three hours later he asked about the child.

That's when the parents realized he was still in the vehicle.

Benito Rodriguez was rushed to the hospital, but didn't survive.

Connie Rodriguez was arrested a short time later.

Child Protective Services is investigating.

The family's three other children are staying with relatives.
