STRATHAM, New Hampshire, (NEWS CENTER) -- A police officer was honored Monday for his bravery when responding to the shooting that killed Greenland Police Chief Michael Maloney.
Officer Charles Law was awarded the Medal of Valor, the department's highest honor. When Officer Law responded to the call that officers had been shot in Greenland, he was at the scene within minutes. His chief says he put his own safety aside and drove directly into the line of fire. As Collin Mutrie continued to shoot, Law got out and dragged the wounded officers into his car and brought them to an ambulance.
Greenland Police Chief Tara Laurent says he is more than deserving of the medal of valor.
"I think its important that we really recognize the people who were heroes that night," Laurent said. "And it wasn't just Chief Maloney who himself was a hero, but all these officers that responded and really went above and beyond the call of duty that night."
Law says he was just doing what he was trained to do.
"I had brother officers who were down and I had to go in there and rescue them."
Law is the only Stratham police officer to ever receive the Medal of Valor.
