UNITY, Maine (NEWS CENTER) --- One area business is getting ready to bring more 'alpaca amenities' to the American Folk Festival in Bangor this year.
"Northern Solstice Alpaca Farm" has been operating in Unity for the last six years. The animals are raised on the farm where their wool is shaved and made into many products including yarn and clothing.
Owners Robin Fowler and Corry Pratt say they now have 26 alpacas at 'Northern Solstice.' The two say raising alpacas can be extremely efficient as many of the animals cover their own feeding costs each year through the wool they produce.
This will be the farm's second year having a booth at the American Folk Festival. Fowler and Pratt say that they cannot wait to share their alpaca products with the public.
"I think the combination of having them {alpacas} be lovely...curious and interesting animals that live for about 20 years but also produce a lovely end product every year...made it pretty irresistible for me," said Fowler.
Fowler and Pratt will be set up in the marketplace section of the festival.
