PORTLAND, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- The 31st Annual MS Harborfest Lobster Boat Races took place on Casco Bay, raising money for Multiple Sclerosis.

For many of the boats, this is not their first race. The Maine Lobster Boat Racing Association hosts 12 races along Maine's coast every year. President, Jon Johansen, says the MS Harborfest Lobster Boat Race is the biggest -- raising 11,000 last year.

According to Johansen, despite popular belief -- lobster boats are made to race.

"Because remember, the first one to get in to port is the first one usually to get home. So he's also the first one to unload his catch, and in the old days he might have been the first one to get a better price for his catch," says Johansen.

Organizers say many of the winners donate their cash prizes.
