AUGUSTA, Maine (AP) - Gov. Paul LePage's plan for a special legislative session is in question following a conversation between the Republican governor and the House Democratic leader.
Rep. Emily Cain of Orono spoke briefly with the governor Friday morning about his comments earlier in the week to a Republican fundraiser that he wanted to call a special session on an undisclosed topic. Democrats say LePage told Cain he would not be calling the Legislature back in, but would wait until January to propose his idea.
That's not how the governor's office recalls the conversation.
LePage spokeswoman Adrienne Bennett says the governor is keeping all of his options on the table.
Bennett says LePage and Cain's conversation was private and to see it released to the media so soon is disappointing.
