GORHAM, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- Nearly one hundred athletes ran through mud, jumped over hurdles, and crawled through tunnels to raise money for families living with Type 1 Diabetes.

The My-Fit-24 gym in Gorham held its first ever obstacle run to benefit the Maine P-Pods. The gym's owners, Stacey and Jesse Coleman, founded the organization to raise money to start a summer camp for kids with Type 1 Diabetes. Their 7 year-old son Bode lives with the disease. They say while they know plenty about keeping him healthy, they still need support from other families going through the same thing.

"We know about health and fitness and we can really help with the nutrition piece of it, but we needed something more for the families" Stacey Coleman said.

Her husband Jesse Coleman said the camp would make that possible.

"Families need help, we really do" Coleman told NEWS CENTER.  "It's not an easy thing to handle all day every day, day in day out and it puts a constant strain and burden and stress on us as a family. It's not just my son. He deals with it but we live with it too."

The race raised nearly 500 dollars for the Maine P-Pods and they are already planning another event. They say they are planning a Zombie run for October.
