DIXFIELD, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- Police continue to investigate a burglary at a church in Dixfield.

Someone broke into the Dixfield Congregational Church two weeks ago and stole an estimated fifteen hundred dollars in cash, as well as church records dating back two hundred years.

Church members have been very upset about the burglary, particularly about the loss of the records. But Reverend John Gensel says he is trying to help everyone to work through their emotions, and encouraging them to pray for those responsible.

"I really feel the person, whoever took it, suffers," Gendel said. "They really feel empty inside, and they have a great need, and they think they can fulfill that need by stealing and doing whatever they're going to do with this money."

Police say while no arrests have been made, the case is still active. They would not release any details about the investigation.
