MAPLETON, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- The Maine Warden Service dive team is currently searching for a missing man who attempted to swim across Hanson Lake in Mapleton Friday night.

The Warden Service says a 30-year-old man was with a group of friends at Hanson Lake near the Presque Isle Airport Friday night.  Officials say members of the group had been drinking and were swimming in the lake during the evening hours.  At one point, a 30-year-old man attempted to swim across the lake by himself.  While attempting to swim across, the group on shore heard calls for help.  The man was not seen going under due to darkness.

The Warden Service is continuing to search for the man and has been assisted by Maine State Police and the Presque Isle Police and Fire Departments.

The missing man's name is not being released pending family notification.
