Unstable, unpredictable weekends can be worse than total washouts. See, in a total washout you make plans around your weather misfortunate. Maybe it's a good book on the couch, maybe it's taking in a movie, maybe it's taking a trip to the mall to shop for the "Slimmest Look in Men's Suits" (ahem, theoretically of course). But when it's "partly sunny with pop up showers" you are left in weather limbo between going outside and staying indoors. It's like dating. I'd rather date a girl who is consistently a jerk than a girl who is nice and then wicked...at least you know what to expect on a day to day basis.( P.S. I married neither. She is lovely. #Ithinkshereadsmyblogs)
Today: It's not a bad start in many spots with early morning sunshine winning out. Unfortunately there is a pretty good deck of clouds lurking to the southwest and it will be progressively encroaching on our area through the day. As a result look for most of the state to go from partly sunny to mostly cloudy by the afternoon, the expection being far northern Maine which should mantain some sun. Now, with a warm front still lingering down across southern MA some showers and thunderstorms will pop up through the day. It looks like the highest concentration of these showers will be over the mountains, western Maine and northern New Hampshire. This is what is so hard about a pattern like this...there will be showers popping up but I can't pinpoint exact locations or timing, it's just too unstable in the mid levels of the atmosphere. One thing I CAN pinpoint is that temperatures will be cool along the coastline (low 70s) with an east wind, but much warmer over northern Maine with the sunshine (low 80s).
Tonight: Showers and thunderstorms will meander around. Most of the activity will stay over western Maine and the mountains again, but by later in the evening I can't rule out a few stray showers making it to the coastline. Temperatures stay mild, in the low to mid 60s with high humidity.
Sunday: Not much of a change in the overall setup by tomorrow morning. That means look for mostly cloudy skies with showers. There are some indications that a few HEAVY showers will move through during the morning over southern Maine so that's something to be aware of. As the warm front to our south slowly drags eastward the bulk of shower/t-storm activity will shift from western Maine to the coastline by the late afternoon. It's worth noting that some of the showers and thunderstorms on Sunday could produce localized flooding since the "steering flow" is weak, allowing a storm to sit over the same area for a while.
Monday: The warm front finally pushes east and falls apart, giving high pressure from the north a chance to build in. As a result look for mostly sunny skies and a pleasant start to the work week. Temperatures will stay mainly in the upper 70s to low 80s.
Tuesday looks nice through the morning with clouds increasing to overcast by the afternoon.
Looks like MORE showers and thunderstorms on Wednesday/Thursday and Friday as another frontal boundary stalls out overhead.
I'm looking for a more positive, riding pattern in the 10 day period but, I have to admit, I'm not seeing it. We could be in for an extended stretch of unsettled weather.
And it's that crazy,"you never know" unsettled, not the consistent jerk unsettled.
