PORTLAND, Maine (NEWS CENTER)- Traffic is at a standstill in some parts of Portland and South Portland because of a police situation that has just ended.
Police say a man with a mental health issue caused police to close a section of Westbrook Street in South Portland near the intersection with Broadway. That man is now in custody and the situation has ended peacefully. Police have also closed Exit 3 off 295 in South Portland which leads to Westbrook Street. The roads are still closed, but are expected to be reopened shortly, however traffic is backed up for miles heading south on 295. Police are advising motorists to avoid the area for the next hour or so.
