BANGOR, Maine (NEWS CENTER)-- She opened her home and heart to local children needing a forever home and now they are asking for your help. The Roy family wants your vote to win a twenty-thousand dollar home renovation through House Logic's Boost your Roost contest.
Tara Roy submitted a three-hundred word essay on how her family could us the prize, "Our house has been under renovation for four years and we have so many projects we would love to be able to finish...there just never seems to be enough time or enough money."
The plan that caught the judges' eyes was to turn their dusty, unfinished attic into a child's dream playroom. They are one of six families hoping to win the grand prize.
Roy admits five kids can weigh heavy on the finances, but giving them a home and a safe place to play is worth it.
"I'm just hopeful it's going to create a really wonderful gathering space where we can all be together," said Roy.
Together is just where they want to stay. Roy opened her home hoping to help local kids, but she found they were all meant for eachother.
"I was really motivated to help kids in the area that don't have stable homes. We wanted to expand our family through adoption and I felt like that was a good way to help out some local children," but Roy said she never expected to have five children.
The children range from eight month old little Adela to seven year old Ashlyn. The kids have big dreams for the playroom too.
Ashlyn hopes for a jungle gym and four-year old Bryn wants a couple slides. But no matter what the room becomes, every kid in this home is a winner already.
You can vote for the Ray household starting July 30th until August 13th.
