WALDOBORO, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- Relatives of the man found dead in Waldoboro on Monday says they're certain he is the victim, and not the one who did the shooting.

Norman Benner, Jr., was found dead in the house he shared with Arlene Lawless and another man. Police say Lawless was shot in the face but is recovering at the hospital. Benner's mother and sister say he wanted to end his relationship with Lawless but she wasn't going to let him go.  The women say they dropped him off at the Friendship Road house Saturday afternoon, and found him dead there on Monday morning.

Police say that either Benner or Lawless did the shooting. Benner's mother and sister told NEWS CENTER they are confident it wasn't him. "So I don't want anybody saying that my son pulled the trigger," said Dawn Benner, Norman's mother, "cause he was dead, he was cold and she was alive."

Kim Simmons, Norman Benner's sister, said "he was scared of her," referring to Lawless. And both say they believe it was Lawless who did the shooting.

State Police had no comment on the allegation. Through hospital officials at Maine Medical Center, we asked Arlene Lawless to comment on the Benner family's accusations, but she declined.
