WALDOBORO, Maine (NEWS CENTER) - State Police are still trying to find out what happened in a house in Waldoboro where two people were shot
Police say family members went to check on Norman Benner Monday morning, because they hadn't seen or talked to him for several days. They found Benner in the house, where he was pronounced dead, and found Arlene Lawless wounded.
Public Safety spokesman Steve McCausland says Lawless had been shot in the face. She is now recovering at Maine Medical Center, and police say detectives have been able to talk with her. Sgt. Jeff Love says the two had lived together in the house since May, along with the home's owner, Jeremy McPhee.
Late Tuesday afternoon, McCausland said McPhee was not involved with the incident, and that it was either Benner or Lawless who did the shooting. investigators say they're still trying to sort it all out and decide what happened.
Meanwhile, Benner's death is having an impact in that part of the town. At Flipper's Market, less than two miles from the home, people who knew Norman Benner say he was a nice guy and very close to his family. They say his death is a shock, and they, too, want to know what happened.
