Maine home sales jump 26 percent in one year

SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine (AP) - Home sales in Maine have risen by 26 percent from a year ago, while prices have increased by about 2 percent.

The Maine Association of Realtors said Thursday that real estate agents sold 1,247 single-family homes in Maine last month, up from 985 in June 2011. The median price was $175,500.

For the three-month period from April through June, home sales were up 23 percent in Maine, with the median price up by about 5 percent.

During that period, home sales increased in 14 out of Maine's 16 counties.

The highest priced homes are in Cumberland County. The lowest-priced homes are in Aroostook County, which had a median sales price of $78,000 over the past three months.
