DOVER-FOXCROFT, Maine (NEWS CENTER) --  The wife of a man who was shot and killed by a Maine state trooper last November has put state police on notice that she intends to sue them.

Margaret Curtis sent a notice of claim to the Maine State Police through her attorney Hunter J. Tzovarras alleging the wrongful death of her husband, Michael Curtis. The claim alleges that Curtis was unarmed at the time he was killed, which contradicts the finding of an investigation by the Maine Attorney General's Office that he had a handgun.

Michael Curtis was shot and killed by state trooper Jon Brown at the Dover-Foxcroft Fairgrounds on November 29 after Curtis shot and killed another man outside a nearby nursing home. That man, Udo Schneider was the ex-husband of Margaret Curtis. According to the notice of claim, which NEWS CENTER obtained from Tzovarras, if Curtis moves forward with a lawsuit she will seek $1 million in damages.  She is acting in her capacity as the representative of the estate of Michael Curtis.
