PALMYRA, Maine (NEWS CENTER)--Farmers across Maine are gearing up to harvest hay but heavy rains in late Spring and early Summer have put a damper on many farmers crops.
Gary Beem has been farming for most of his life. Right now he farms 400 acres in Palmyra.
Beem says he brings in about 35 to 40 thousand bales of hay a season. This year the crop is about 20 to 30 percent smaller than last year and recently he has had to turn to other means to make ends meet.
Most of the hay at the Beem farm is bought and sold locally.
