BANGOR, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- One Orono man has been searching more than a decade for a purple heart medal honoring his brother for his service in the Vietnam War.
Allen Nedeau's older brother Larry was killed in combat more than 56 years ago and was posthumously awarded a purple heart. It went missing about ten years ago when Allen loaned it out to an organization for display.
It ended up in Maritime International in downtown Bangor, where a friend of Allen's found it a few weeks ago. He says he is eternally grateful to have it back in his possession. "
It's just memories of him. You know, I have letters, I have other things," he says, "But it's just part of his life that I need to keep within my family so he's not forgotten, that's the key."
Allen says he feels he has that emotional connection to his brother back in his life.
