AUGUSTA, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- The primary elections are now complete. The one recount from the primary was held Tuesday.
The recount was for a Republican primary race for the House of Representatives seat from Rockland and part of Owls Head.
On election day, Gordon Mank Jr. beat James Raye by just two votes, so Raye asked for a recount. Mank manages a homeless shelter in Rockport. Raye owns an insurance business in Rockland. Both are well-known locally.
Recounts in Legislative primary races are rare, according to Deputy Secretary of State Julie Flynn, but they sometimes happen. In this case, with a total of just 370 ballots, including those that left the House race blank, the count didn't take long.
When it was over, the numbers had changed but the result was the same. Both candidates gained a vote, that had been missed during the original ballot counting. Mank still won by a two vote margin, 166 to 164. He will face Democrat Elizabeth Dickerson in the general election. Dickerson was unopposed in her primary. The winner will replace incumbent Rep. Ed Mazurek, a Democrat who can't run for the seat again because3 of term limits.
