CAPE ELIZABETH, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration said it won't be able to determine a cause of death for a whale found dead on the rocks near Two Lights State Park in Cape Elizabeth.

NOAA officials said the 27-foot adult male Minke whale has been dead for several weeks, but just washed up on the shore at Two Lights State Park either Wednesday night or early Thursday morning.  NOAA said the body was too badly decomposed to determine a cause of death.

According to park officials, two people working on a house near the park first spotted the whale early Thursday morning.

NOAA said there are no plans to remove the whale from its current location, and that it will let it wash back out into the ocean.
